Rug Sale & Rug Pad FAQ's
What’s the difference between Wonder-lock and Rug Stop Rug Padding?
The primary difference between Wonder-Lock (WunderLock) and Rug-Stop padding lies in their intended use. Wonder-Lock padding is designed for rugs placed on top of carpet and is a sticky pad meaning it will stick to the underlying carpet. It assists with slipping but is thinner than Rug-Stop padding. It will need to be professionally applied for best results.
Wunder Lock is a thin white felt coated with a dry adhesive that won’t transfer to a carpet. It works exceptionally well to hold small rugs in place and in some cases can be used under larger rugs. It can be placed and moved several times without losing tack.
WunderLock is the premium product used for rugs on carpets to hold any rug on any carpet. Especially ideal for lightweight rugs, dhurries, and high-traffic areas. WunderLock is manufactured with a special "dry" adhesive that is nontransferable. WunderLock is washable, and foil backed for easier installation.
Rug-Stop padding is ideal for rugs on hard flooring such as wood or tile but can also be used on carpets or on top of other rugs. It not only prevents slipping but also adds cushion. In addition, Rug-Stop rug padding has a foam rubber backing that helps prevent spills from leaking onto the underlying surface and a 1/4" thick felt top. It does not require professional installation.
In general, rug padding extends the life of your rug, prevents slippage, and protects the underlying carpet or floor from spills, scratches and stains. Rug-Stop rug padding is our most popular selling rug padding product and tends to be a little more multi-purpose. Our padding is charged by the square yard and we custom-cut the rug pad to your specific rug size at no additional charge. We also offer installation services for customers purchasing our Wonderlock Rug Pad product.
Do you charge a restocking fee if I return a rug I purchased?
Yes. We offer a limited-period refund policy on our rug sales. There is a restocking fee if you purchase a rug and later decide to return it for a refund. Please see our Rug Sales Policy for additional information.
What size rug should I get for my space?
For living room rugs: The rug should be large enough for at least the front legs of all furniture to rest on it.
For dining room rugs: Choose a rug large enough to accommodate the table and chairs, leaving 24-30 inches on all sides.
For bedroom rugs: Place a rug under the bed, extending 18-24 inches beyond the sides and foot of the bed.
What type of rug is best for high-traffic areas?
Durable materials like wool or nylon, are ideal for high-traffic areas. Flat-weave rugs and low-pile designs work well as they resist wear.
What rug material is the easiest and cheapest to clean?
Polypropylene and other synthetic materials are the easiest to clean. Wool is also naturally stain resistant but may require professional cleaning for tough stains.
What’s the difference between hand-knotted, hand-tufted, and machine-made rugs?
- Hand-knotted rugs: Made by hand with superior craftsmanship; durable and expensive.
- Hand-tufted rugs: Faster to produce and less costly, but less durable.
- Machine-made rugs: Mass-produced, affordable, and suitable for temporary use.
What’s a good price for a quality rug?
Machine-made rugs start at $50-$300. Hand-tufted rugs cost $300-$1,000. Hand-knotted rugs start around $1,000 and can go up significantly depending on size, knot count, quality, and material.
Are vintage or antique rugs worth the investment?
Yes, if you value craftsmanship and uniqueness. Vintage rugs often appreciate over time, especially if they’re well-maintained and authentic.
How do I ensure I’m buying a real Persian or oriental rug?
Look for hand-knotted construction, uneven knots on the back, and natural dyes. Purchase from
reputable, experienced rug dealers.
How big should a rug be under a dining table?
A rug should be large enough so chairs remain on it when pulled out. Typically, this means adding at
least 24 inches to the dimensions of your table.
Can I layer rugs (rugs on top of rugs)?
Yes! Layering rugs can add texture and visual interest. Use a larger neutral rug as a base and place a smaller patterned or colorful rug on top.
What’s the best rug for a house with pets?
Choose rugs made of synthetic materials like polypropylene or nylon. Flat-weave rugs are ideal as they’re easier to clean and resist pet hair.
Are the colors on your website accurate?
We strive to display the most accurate colors possible in our product images. However, because many of our items are handmade, and due to differences in device displays, colors, and patterns may vary slightly from the images shown. Pattern & photo ratio variations may also occur depending on the item's size and post-image editing.
Can I buy a rug on your website without physically coming into the store to see it in person?
Yes, but we highly recommend anyone interested in purchasing a rug come to our store and view the rug in person. In some cases, the rug colors shown in the product image may not appear exactly as the actual rug due to display differences and other variables.
How do I order a rug on your website and what's the delivery process?
If you’re local to the metropolitan Phoenix, Arizona area, we recommend that you come into our showroom to view the rug in person before purchasing. If that’s not possible or you’d prefer to order through our website, you’ll go through the normal shopping cart purchase process. During the checkout process, you’ll be offered several delivery/shipping options depending on if you’re local to the Phoenix area. If you are local, one of our rug technicians will deliver the rug to you (free delivery). If you are outside of the local delivery area or you chose to have the rug delivered through a third-party shipping company (FedEx) instead of us, our website will calculate the cost of shipping including the required shipping insurance and any processing fees and will present you with a total
cost at the time of checkout.
What's the turn-around time to have my rugs serviced?
The amount of time to get your rugs serviced depends on several factors including the type of services you have requested, the number of services being completed on a rug, and the condition of the rug (some rugs require re-treatment) just to name a few. We always strive to complete rug services promptly but we refuse to skip on quality for the sake of expediency. For some services, we offer a "Rush" option for an additional small fee that can reduce the turn-around time if you must have your rugs returned by a specific date. Our average turn-around times are below but in some cases, the amount of time needed may be slightly longer or shorter than the average.
